If you are like me it is hard to stay focused. You know you need to do certain things everyday, but something always distracts you. Okay, I am speaking from experience. I don’t really know if this happens to anyone else.
Too Many Irons In the Fire
How many businesses are you promoting? Well I was trying to promote 4. One day, I decided that maybe I need to down size.
It took me a few days of soul searching to figure out which one I was most passionate about. I dropped 3 of my businesses and finally I can start promoting the one I love. I will say, if I believe in having more than one income stream, but for now I am going to start with one.
Now with the right amount of Irons in the Fire…what do I do now?
I have all this knowledge in my head swimming around, but cannot find a way out. A productive way out, that is. I know I need traffic. I know I need to build relationships. I know I need to build a list.
What to do? What to do? What to do? I was really letting myself get overwhelmed. Then one day, my friend and mentor Kevin DeRoo (Kevin is a really great guy. That’s his mug shot on the left) started asking me what are you doing to promote your business? I told him really nothing, because I couldn’t get started. I just needed a boost I guess, I don’t know.
Anyway, we got on a conference call and he got me started in the right direction. I know what I needed to get done, and I was actually doing it with excitement. I finally felt like I was getting things accomplished.
So What Happened?
I let life get in the way. Things came up like always, but I let my focus slip away, instead of rearranging my schedule. I just lost focus.
But I didn’t ride that train long. I contacted Kevin. Just talking to him helped me find my focus, again.
So if you get anything out of this post, communicate with a mentor, friend or business partner. Things in life will try to throw you off course, but having someone who has been down the road you are on can really help.
In closing, I would like to say that all mentors need mentors. If you want to mentor someone you have to have a mentor yourself. Successful people are always learning and growing, and when you stop learning and growing you are failing.
So find a mentor or mentors, and learn, grow and succeed. Take what you learn and pass it on to others. I am a mentor and love the feeling of helping others succeed. It is a great feeling.
I would love to hear from you. Who are your mentors? Do you communicate with them daily, weekly or monthly?

Focus… That is what has surfaced in my life as well. Focus. Stay with what you love and love where you are. Connecting with fellow travelers is a great touch as well. Thank you for the gentle reminders to us all. We can not do it all! But we can do a bit. If we choose the right bit then that bit will become bounteous when it is congruent with our talents and abilities.

Mentors could help us in some points but we still need to focus and prioritize the most important. Having too many products to promote can be destructive. We sometimes to give other products our attention. So it’s better for us to concentrate in single or two products only.
Though you also have some regarding getting into your mentor. Thanks for stressing some ideas.

Hello Jaden, what you’ve described (losing focus, life getting in the way, too much going on) is probably much more common in the home business community than we think. I’ve certainly had my share of distractions over time, and have learned the hard lesson about focus. You simply have to narrow things down and concentrate your efforts – there simply isn’t enough time to tackle or try everything that comes along.

Like many things in life, the best method is the KISS method, including business. Running several out of time puts you in several different areas. I know if I wanted to sell my crafts, I would not have time to do WordPress web design and development for my clients. It takes time, money, and focus.
My mentor is my father and one of my old teachers from the first time I went to college. I mentor quite a few WordPress designers and developers in the community. So, I definitely agree that anyone who does mentoring has either been mentored or still has a mentor they consult.

Great Post Jaden
We all go stray every now and then and need a helping hand to get back on track and Mr. DeRoo is a great mentor to guide you back and with little hints keep you on track, you may not even know he is doing. And we all need help, that is how we learn.
Thank You
Sharon

I agree with you. We don’t know everything and that is when a mentor comes in. In my case, I prefer a tough and persistent one, so that I’ll be constantly reminded to focus on the important things.
A mentor having a mentor? That’s cool. The sense of mentoring someone can really be a good way to achieve personal satisfaction.

Jaden,
It goes back to SOS – Shine Object Syndrome. That’s when you can’t keep your hands off the keyboard or your fingers from reaching for your credit card. This is the thing that will make the difference in my business, in my sex life and in state of mind. And, we need not worry, we’ll never run out of nice shiney objects.
You nailed it by looking at what you are truly passionate about. Most people don’t take the time to assess what their heart’s desire really is.
As far as a mentor goes I have a business coach who is always available to bounce things off or chat with when I feel overwhelmed. I highly recommend getting a coach/mentor. The real successes all have coaches and mentors. Works every time.
In clarity and success,
RICK
